What is a read-only address or wallet?
A watch-only wallet (or address) is a wallet that lets you view balances and incoming and outgoing transactions, but doesn’t give you control over the funds. It is imported to 1inch Wallet using the wallet's public address. You cannot send tokens or manage assets with it, since no private key is involved. Learn how to import your existing wallet properly into 1inch Wallet.
Scammers often use watch-only wallets to mislead people into thinking they’ve received funds or to trick them into taking further steps. If someone asks you to interact with such a wallet, treat it with caution.
How do I know if I have a watch-only wallet in 1inch Wallet?
Watch-only wallets are marked with an eye badge in 1inch Wallet.
Can I convert a watch-only wallet into a regular wallet?
No. It is not possible to convert, "activate", or “unlock” a watch-only wallet unless you are its owner. If you are the wallet owner, import it again using the correct seed phrase or private key. Only then will you be able to send transactions and manage funds.
Some fraudsters may try to sell watch-only wallets, claiming that they can later be “activated” or “unlocked.” This is never true—without the real seed phrase or private key, funds in such wallets are inaccessible. Learn more about the most frequent scam schemes and how to safeguard yourself.
Why can’t I send, sell, or withdraw funds from a watch-only wallet?
Because a watch-only wallet does not contain a seed phrase or private key, it has no signing authority. This means you can only view balances and track activity, but you cannot perform any transactions such as sending, swapping, or withdrawing funds.
Why would I want a read-only address?
The main reason is security. For example, if you use a hardware wallet, you can import its public address to view balances and receive tokens without risking your private keys.
Another common use is testing — you can connect to dApps, see shared data, but not sign transactions.
You might also use a read-only address to track activity of friends, whales, or opinion leaders without having access to their funds.
Can I cash out money from my regular 1inch Wallet?
No. The 1inch Wallet does not provide a function to cash out funds or convert them directly into fiat currency for transfer to bank accounts. It is designed for managing crypto assets only.
What happens if I lose or forget my seed phrase?
If you lose or forget your seed phrase, you will most likely lose access to your wallet permanently. A seed phrase cannot be restored or recovered by any service. The only way to regain access is through a backup that you created earlier—this is why making and safely storing a backup is so important.
Note that 1inch Support Team cannot help recover a lost seed phrase. Always keep it secure and never share it with anyone!
What types of transaction statuses are there in 1inch Wallet?
Each transaction in your 1inch Wallet can have one of the following statuses:
Executed—the transaction was successfully completed and recorded on the blockchain.
Pending—the transaction is still being processed. At this stage, you can try to speed it up or cancel it.
Expired—the transaction didn’t start for technical reasons, and no data was written to the blockchain.
Canceled—the transaction was manually canceled by the user before it reached the blockchain.
Failed—the transaction attempt was made, but an error occurred, and it was not recorded on the blockchain.
